Nearly a decade after 9/11, New York City remains at-risk from what Federal agencies have identified as the most likely scenario for terroristic exploitation and/ or industrial accident: the introduction of toxins through the HVAC systems of Manhattan’s office towers. Under current conditions, such an event would have immediate and disastrous for the building’s occupants: depending on the chemical or radiological agent deployed, massive fatalities and total property contamination are stark, realistic possibilities.

Unity International Group has formed Toxin Alerting Building Systems, LLC (TABS). Through an exclusive territorial arrangement with Building Protection Systems, Inc. TABS has developed a best-in-breed solution capable of Detecting, Identifying, Isolating, and Abating toxins from air supply of office buildings. The platform is component technology system that detects chemicals at points of air intake, signals the building’s management system to isolate particular areas of the HVAC, and triggers an automated military grade filtration system to trap the toxin. This is accomplished with a 99.7% confidence level against false positive detection, the only system to achieve such high marks of reliability (false positives lead to erroneous evacuations and unnecessary deployment of emergency personnel, events which undermine employee morale, create substantial cost for both the affected building and responding government agencies).

The TABS platform has received Department of Homeland Security Designation as a Qualified Anti-Terrorism Technology (QATT), a designation under the SAFETY Act of 2002 that extends a liability cap to businesses that institute approved technologies in the event of a terroristic event. It received a Site-Specific MEA from the FDNY.
